MRI Predicts Knee Cartilage Defects

mri-sidebar

The August 2016 edition of Radiology (the Journal of the Radiological Society of North America) publishes an article which reports on research from the Osteoarthritis initiative.

The paper shows that up to 4 years before the development of cartilage defects in the knee joint MRI scans can show signal abnormalities in the areas which subsequently develop these defects.

This shows that MRI scans can predict the development of significant cartilage lesions before they have actually developed.
